One headline is enough to empty half a shop. One falling chart sends everyone rushing to sell. One polished advertisement makes a thing you had never heard of feel impossible to live without.
In the moment, it all makes sense. Panic passes for caution. Someone else’s opinion feels like your own choice. An unnecessary purchase promises a fresh start. The excuse arrives before the doubt.
DOOMRAT turns those everyday contradictions into satire. Doom is a rat with a very human talent for being led by the news, advertising, the crowd and his own convictions. He deals with the consequences later. Usually too late.
His stories take aim at our behaviour, from domestic panic to political theatre. The setting and the stakes may change. The urge to believe what suits us, buy a promise and justify ourselves stays painfully familiar.
The article is unfinished. The supplies are already bought. First comes fear. Then there’s no time to check.
When the crowd is buying, selling or outraged, joining in is easier than asking why.
We’re sold status, happiness and a better version of ourselves. Somehow, the box contains just another thing.
Ambition, grand gestures and a fight for influence. Political absurdity is just as recognisable at rat scale.
Doom is certain he’s being sensible. Just preparing. Just taking a good deal. Just doing what everyone else does. Other people’s mistakes are easier to spot than his own. Sound familiar?
In the first story, Mik is only dropping by. His ordinary purchase doesn’t fit the catastrophe Doom has already imagined. Sometimes that’s all it takes to ask an awkward question.
